The “Nrityabhinaya” Academy of Art, Culture and Music is born out of Kabita Mohanty’s vision to preserve, promote and popularize the rich and varied cultural heritage that our country India has. Being an Odissi dancer where “Nritya and Abhinay” entwine together into a spiritual liberation, Kabita Mohanty’s “Nirtyabhinay” derives inspiration from this concept. While other skilling mediums and courses are usually short term courses with immediate employability, one needs to understand that any art form be it dance or music needs perseverance, patient and practice. This one skill that needs years of relentless effort to master it and carve a creative complacent of career out of it. षड्‍जश्‍च ऋषभश्‍चैव गान्धारो मध्यमस्तथा ।
पञ्‍चमो धैवतश्‍चैव सप्तमोऽथ निषादवान् ॥ ‘नाट्य शास्त्र’

Odissi is one of the pre-eminent classical dance form of India which originated in Hindu temples of eastern coastal states of Odisha India. Its theoretical base traces back to ‘Natya Shastra’, the ancient Sanskrit Hindu text on performing arts. Age-old tradition of Odissi is manifested from Odisha Hindu temples and various sites of archaeological significance that are associated with Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism, the sculptures of which adorn dance postures of this art form.

Odissi is a form of illustrative anecdote of mythical and religious stories, devotional poems and spiritual ideas emoted by dancer with excellent body movements, expressions, impressive gestures and sign languages, its performance repertoire includes invocation, nrita, nritya, natya and moksha. This dance form includes themes from Vaishnavism and other associated with Hindu Gods and Goddesses like Shiva, Surya and Shakti

CHIEF MENTOR ( Director of Nrityabhinaya )

India is myriad amalgamation of art and culture that enriches its very own existence in countless ways. Hailing from eastern Indian state of Odisha, Kabita Mohanty is a serious pursuer of Odissi with fervent dedication, innovation and creativity towards her chosen dance form. Equipped with an eight years integrated course in classical dance and the Nrutya Bhusan Diploma in Odissi under Khairagarh University of Madhyapradesh, she also holds a degree in Odissi from Chandigarh University. Her formal education in classical dance, and the inspired years building up to -two and a half decades, sculpt her into a seamless, graceful, stunning and “au fait” artist.

Starting with holding a “taal” and tapping a foot on the dance stage from the tender age of six, Kabita Mohanty’s inherent skills were further nurtured by eminent “Gurus” like Shri Raghunath Dutta, Guru Mayadhara Raut, legendary proponent of Odissi Late Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Guru Smt. Kumkum Mohanty, Guru Smt. Abha Nalini Kumar, Guru Smt. Kasturi Pattnaik. Their blessing have transcended in each of her stage performance making her stand tall and proud even when performing with stalwarts of Odissi like Smt. Geeta Mahalik, Smt. Ranjana Gauhar and Smt. Ipsita Behoora to name a few. A graduated in Library Science and an LLB degree holder, multifaceted Kabita Mohanty is engaged as full-time dance teacher in prestigious D.A.V Public School in Gurugram (Gurgaon) Haryana. Her perseverance and acumen in choreography with Odissi and other folk-dance forms have bought number of accolades to school and has helped students feel a sense of fulfilment to overcome their academic stress.
